Catfish – Fork tailed
Also known as the Croaker, this catfish is characterised by its fork like tail. It too has scaleless skin distinguishing whiskers. The colouration of this species varies greatly as this catfish can change the colour of its body to suit the particular environment in which it is situated. Colouring may vary from dark blue/black to chocolate brown through to gold, grey and even cream and pinkish shades. Fin colour also depends on the colouration of the body; however the tail is usually dark.
Up to 20kg.
Fork-tailed Catfish are found in tropical warm water estuarine or marine habitats in the northern half of Australia. They inhabit estuaries, freshwater rivers, water holes and mud flats with some species venturing offshore into open seas.
