Cod – Estuary
Also known as Brown-spotted rock cod, rock cod, and the north-west groper. The estuary cod has a characteristic large mouth. Their head, body and fins are olive green or creamy brown, covered with brownish, orange spots, either rounded or oblong, and they have five blotchy dark bars across the body. The colouration and shape of this fish varies depending on its environment.
Most cod caught weigh in between 0.6kg and 6kg; however the prized catches, taken offshore can tip the scales in excess of 25kg.
Estuary cod inhabits tropical and subtropical waters.
They respond well to dead and live bait, jigs and troll lures.
