Herring – Australian
A relatively small compact fish. The herring although similar in appearance as the Australian Salmon, the herring has notably larger eyes. This fish has a forked tail with a black tip at the end. The Herrings colouring fades from Olive-green to silver-white. The Australian Herring is actually a perch and is native to Australian waters.
Most commonly caught around 20cm.
Found in the waters of South Australia, along the south coast of Western Australia and into Victoria.
Very good idea to use berley when fishing for Australian Herring ( bread, cereal or even crushed dog biscuits will do the trick ). Colourful/glow lures work well, or baited line of prawn or whitebait.
