There are many varieties of marlin. This particular variety is a dark metalic blue to black changing to a silver blue on its sides to a white belly, with dark fins. It has a rigid pectoral fin and has a predominant beak-like upper lip.
This variety can be caught weighing under 10kg. However there has been record catches weighing in over 500kg....yes....not a typo....500 kg!!
The Black Marlin is found in teh tropical and subtropical waters of Australia, however the hotspot for catching Marlin is from Cairns to Townsville.
The Black marlin can generally be caught with both live and dead bait.
