Also known as the Goodoo, Murray or Codfish. This cod is a broad elongate fish with a large mouth and deep set eyes. It is olive to cream or yellowish with a pattern of green markings on the back and sides. It is white to cream underneath.
The Murray cod is the largest freshwater fish found within Australia. This particular fish can grow to 180cm and up to 115kg. Most of the cod caught these days more commonly measure in at around 70cm and weighing less than 5kg.
The Murray Cod is a fresh water fish which is found in the Darling-Murray river system from Queensland, NSW, Victoria and South Australia. The Murray Cod are known to live near submerged logs and root systems.
Best caught with live bait, lures or flies.
